Major international project with TerraPower Isotopes

10-09-26, 10:40

Von Gahlen secures a major international project through a long-term collaboration with TerraPower Isotopes. The project involves designing an advanced hot cell production line specifically for handling thorium-229 (Th-229), a raw material used to produce actinium-225 (Ac-225). This setup enables TerraPower Isotopes to produce Ac-225, a rare alpha-emitting isotope used in medical research and treatments, at its planned production facility currently being built on the East Coast of the United States. Increasing Ac-225 production will improve worldwide access for researchers and developers working on targeted alpha therapies for certain cancers.

Jaap Duiker, Managing Director of Von Gahlen: “We are proud to support TerraPower Isotopes in achieving their mission to transform the fight against cancer by advancing the next generation of isotopes. We congratulate them on this milestone. Together with TerraPower experts, our team is developing a custom solution built on true partnership. Our engineering team and experts are highly motivated to make this project succeed. We look forward to strengthening this partnership further through close collaboration.”

Scott Claunch, President of TerraPower Isotopes: “Working with Von Gahlen to build a cutting‑edge hot cell production line marks a pivotal milestone for TerraPower Isotopes as the company continues to scale production of actinium‑225 and advance the next generation of medical isotopes. With this new thorium line, we will be able to increase production of actinium-225, enabling us to deliver more treatments that ultimately benefit more patients. It is collaborations like this that serve to propel our mission forward.”

Grown into a knowledge organization

Von Gahlen sees this collaboration as an important project that represents another significant step forward in the advancement of nuclear medicine worldwide. Founded in 1973, the company has evolved from a production-focused business into a knowledge-driven organization. Daily, 130 employees dedicate themselves to developing solutions that suit their customers. This enables customers to focus confidently on the development, production, and transportation of life-saving medicines to patients within a controlled, protected environment.

Alex Duiker: “With decades of experience and a proven track record in delivering large-scale, complex projects, Von Gahlen has built a strong reputation as a trusted knowledge partner. Our expertise, skilled technical teams, and professional project management were key factors in TerraPower Isotopes’ decision to select us to work on this project . By combining proven technologies with collaborative innovation, we can support TerraPower Isotopes by turning ambitious goals into reality. We are proud of the long-term relationship built on trust and are confident that our knowledge and experience will contribute to the successful realization of TerraPower Isotopes' promising actinium-225 production initiatives.

TerraPower Isotopes’ actinium-225 is already enabling clinical programs worldwide as a key component of next-generation targeted alpha therapies. We congratulate them on this important milestone. This new facility represents a critical step in expanding and strengthening the infrastructure needed to accelerate the transformation of cancer treatment.”
