Customized Type A Packaging

Radiopharmaceutical shipments are rarely identical. Each isotope, activity level and transport condition requires a specific packaging configuration.

Selecting the appropriate Type A packaging requires evaluating several factors that determine the required shielding, inner packaging configuration and overall packaging design.

Key factors include:

  • Isotope type and half-life: determines shielding requirements and the delivery timeframe.
  • Activity level: defines the required shielding materials and container configuration.
  • Shipment volume: indicates whether the shipment concerns a single patient dose or multi-dose material.
  • Transport mode: road or air transport influences certification requirements and packaging design.
  • Temperature requirements: certain radiopharmaceuticals require temperature control such as 2–8 °C, 15–25 °C or dry ice.
  • Vial type: determines the suitable lead pot configuration and inner packaging.
  • Single-use or reusable packaging: defines whether the packaging is designed for occasional shipments or repeated transport.

Based on these parameters, Von Gahlen develops a packaging configuration that ensures safe, compliant and efficient transport of radiopharmaceuticals. Available as single-use or reusable packaging solutions depending on the logistics model.
